Youngster Comes to the Rescue

After arriving at the airport and picking up my bags, I loaded them on a cart and headed for my car. Before I made it very far, a large, heavy duffle bag fell off the cart. A young boy came to my rescue. He never said a word, just ran a few feet and tried to place the bag back on the cart for me. I would guess the youngster to be about 8 years old. The bag was almost as big as he was and probably weighed more. When he was unsuccessful in lifting the bag back to its prior position, he just grabbed one end while I grabbed the other. Together we managed to put the bag back on the cart. My verbal "thank you" brought a bright smile to his face. His efforts brought a smile to mine.

Rekindled Friendship

I gave a bookmark to an old girlfriend of my granddaughters who came over to take her out to dinner. They have not seen each other for 4 years and when they were friends my granddaughter was pretty mean to her. But she has grown up and now has a 7 month old daughter (my 1st great grandchild!). They are here visiting from North Carolina for 4 weeks. I told her friend that I really appreciated her giving Alisha another chance to be her friend and the bookmark made her cry. Thank you again for the chance to share.

Naughty or Nice

The holiday season seems to bring out both the naughty and nice in people. I was recently privy to “nice.” On a trip to Malley’s Candy in Lakewood, Ohio, I was impressed with the consideration a young man showed me. I had just checked out at the register. I’d already made one trip to the car with some bags and was gathering up the last load to go out to the car. There was a young boy of about five nearby. He was intently looking at the delicious fudge and other candies in the counter. His parents were about ten feet away. The young man saw me struggling with my packages and without any prompting came over and held open the door for me. I thanked him for his kindness and he smiled at me. By this time his parents were looking on. I nodded my head to them and mouthed the words thank you to them for their well-mannered child. They both beamed with joy. Now that’s parenting!

Teen Ready to Help

My sister-in-law recently shared this story with me about her son, my nephew, who will soon graduate from high school. My sister-in-law and nephew were in the waiting room of the doctor’s office. An older gentleman came out after seeing the doctor and had put on his coat, but was struggling to get it zipped. He asked for help from my nephew who immediately got up, zipped his coat and helped adjust the gentleman’s scarf. All was done with a smile and without hesitation. To those who say teens are selfish and self-absorbed – I say you’re wrong!
